We are seeking an experienced Mainframe COBOL Programmer to design, develop, enhance, and support enterprise mainframe applications. The ideal candidate will work closely with business analysts and stakeholders to translate business requirements into high-quality technical solutions while ensuring system performance, stability, and reliability across batch and online environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and enhance mainframe applications using COBOL, CICS, ADABAS, VSAM, and IBM JCL.
- Contribute to the development of complex automated solutions and proactively monitor application performance.
- Perform unit testing and system testing to ensure the quality and accuracy of application changes.
- Analyze business requirements and translate them into detailed technical and functional specifications.
- Collaborate with business analysts, developers, and stakeholders to deliver effective solutions.
- Debug, analyze, and resolve application defects and production issues.
- Adhere to established software development standards, SDLC processes, and mainframe batch and online processing best practices.
- Troubleshoot issues during nightly batch processing and ensure timely resolution.
- Provide accurate schedule estimates, technical performance projections, and detailed work/action plans.
- Document system enhancements, issue resolutions, and operational procedures.
Required Technical Skills
- Strong experience in COBOL programming (batch and online).
- Hands-on experience with CICS, VSAM, ADABAS, and IBM JCL.
- Solid understanding of mainframe batch and online processing environments.
- Experience in application support, testing, and production issue resolution.
- Knowledge of ITIL-based application operational support and SDLC methodologies.
- Familiarity with CMMI-based development practices, IT testing processes, and audit procedures.
