Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Data Scientist to join the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH). This role focuses on leveraging data science techniques to deliver actionable insights that support public health initiatives and improve decision-making across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze large datasets to uncover trends, patterns, and insights
  • Build and deploy data-driven solutions, dashboards, and analytical tools
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into data solutions
  • Develop and optimize data pipelines, ETL processes, and database structures
  • Apply statistical analysis and machine learning techniques to solve business problems
  • Create prototypes and scalable data products for end users
  • Mentor junior data scientists and provide technical leadership
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance with standards
  • Develop and maintain documentation for data solutions
  • Present findings and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences
 

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field
  • Strong experience with Python, R, and SQL
  • Expertise in data analysis, data cleaning, and transformation
  • Hands-on experience with machine learning techniques (clustering, decision trees, neural networks, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of statistical methods (regression, distributions, hypothesis testing)
  • Experience with data visualization and reporting tools
  • Proficiency in building applications using Shiny, Dash, Flask, or Streamlit
  • Solid understanding of relational and dimensional databases
  • Experience working with data pipelines and ETL processes
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
 

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with geospatial data, geocoding
  • Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes
  • Exposure to Neo4j or network analysis
  • Experience conducting workshops or training sessions
